After giving it a go though, I can tell you it was actually ridiculously easy and straightforward and didn’t require any external tools or scripts! As such, I decided to put together this step-by-step tutorial for migrating your data from KeePass to 1Password! Steps Preparation Yeah, as you can imagine that’s not a great solution.Īnyway, I wanted to move over to 1Password but when I tried searching for “Migrate KeePass to 1Password” I kept seeing references to 3rd party scripts I’d need to use to convert my exported data (no thanks) or that it would require a bunch of manual data entry. KeePass is an excellent (open source!) piece of software, but since it stores passwords in a single database file the only way that I could really sync it between multiple computers and my phone was to store that file… in Dropbox. We also currently expect a login to have _either_ a password _or_ a URL value present, so if you have some credentials that may be username/email only (no URL/password) those will likely be detected as secure notes as well.I’ve been using KeePass for my password management needs since early 2014, but I recently decided that I wanted to move to something a bit more substantial. As another user mentioned in the comments, if we aren't able to confidently detect a login, we will import it as a secure note to prevent any potential data loss. This will help our import logic better detect the correct type of vault item you're trying to import. If your file contains both secure notes & credentials (which it sounds like there may be?) you can add a `type` column & provide `credential` in the cell for credentials & `note` or `secureNote` in the cell for secure notes. We have an example CSV template that highlights header values we support - we do support more than those but if you want to be sure that the headers will be detected correctly, I'd recommend updating any header values to match the example ones we have there! In the meantime, I'd recommend checking out our Import Guide (Specifically the "Prepare your CSV file for import" Section). Hello! My team & I are currently working on some *massive* improvements to our import flow, but phase one of those changes will still be about 2 weeks out.
